Rev. Dale Walling
Interim Minister

I am a native Texan, born and raised in the San Antonio and Dallas/Ft. Worth area.  For years my entire family, (parents, two sisters, one brother and their families), all lived in Texas not far from each other.  In the space of a few years we’ve migrated to the mid-West and specifically to the Kansas City area.  My wife Linda and I own a home in Shawnee, Kansas.

Linda worked in Human Resources for over 30 years.  She is now retired and travels with me in my Interim work.  We have four grown sons, Max, Sam,Brian and Jason, two granddaughters, Jordan and Jennifer, and a rescue-Chihuahua named Lady Bug.

I attended Baylor University and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion with a minor in Psychology.  My seminary training was at Brite Divinity School.  I was ordained December 13, 1981, and celebrate 34 years of ministry in 2015.

My brother Gary, and his wife Linda, are also ordained ministers with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Throughout my first 28 years as an ordained minister I served as senior minister at five churches.  In 1999 I was called to the First Christian Church of Pasadena, Texas, where we sold the church and relocated to a growing area of town, building a new sanctuary, administrative and Sunday School Class facility.  It was a life-transforming move for the congregation, who has gone on to grow and minister to the local community in profound ways.

While in Pasadena, Linda and I sponsored three mission trips to Mexico through our partners of Good Samaritan Ministries in Los Fresnos, Texas.  Working at an orphanage 30 miles into Mexico, we helped rebuild and paint their current buildings, and provided lessons for the children.

Those experiences were truly life-changing for everyone involved as we took to heart Jesus’ words of, “When you’ve done this to the least of these, you have done it unto me!”

During one of our trips I was invited by Feliberto Pereira, founder and director of Good Samaritan Ministries, to preach one Sunday at the Iglesia Cristiana Ebenezer in Los Fresnos.  With the majority of their members Hispanic, and with Spanish as a hobby with me, I was able to preach in Spanish.  The congregation was very animated and would cry out “Amen!” or "Alabado sea Dios!"  (Praise God!).  It was an experience I will never forget!

In 1991 through 1993 I was a chaplain for Houston's Memorial Healthcare Hospital System and earned 8 units of Clinical Pastoral Education.

In 2008 Linda and I became empty-nesters and decided to see what new adventures God might have in store for us.  After years of parish work I sensed a call to Interim Ministry, attended the required workshops offered by the INTERIM MINISTRY NETWORK, completed my fieldwork project and received my certification as an Intentional Interim Minister in February 2010.

With previous interim positions in Kansas and Missouri, I am even more convinced of this calling to Interim Ministry and enjoy helping churches pull together during times of transition as they prepare for their next permanent minister.
